The best Twitter reactions after Liverpool thrash City in the Champions League last eight

Social media has gone into overdrive after Liverpool swept aside Manchester City at Anfield for the second time this season.

Jurgen Klopp’s men ran out convincing 3-0 winners against the Cityzens last night, putting one foot in the semi-finals of the Champions League with a dazzling performance on merseyside.

Mohamed Salah (who else?) opened the scoring after just 12 minutes, capitalising on some sloppy defending form City defender Kyle Walker to hit home his 38th goal of the season.

And the host’s lead was doubled only eight minutes later when Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain slammed the ball past Ederson from outside the penalty area.

Sadio Mane then completed the rout just past the half-hour mark with a fine header to take his goal total for the season to 16.

The victory put Liverpool in firm control of the tie and favourites to progress to the competitions last four, however Jurgen Klopp insists the hard work is not done just yet.

“We beat the best team in the world so that’s a really good performance,” said Liverpool boss Klopp. “It was good tonight, but I am not interested in being good.

“In this competition, it is about going to the next round, and we are not in the next round. Let’s talk about it after the next game.”

The Reds travel to The Etihad next Tuesday as they look to reach the Champions League semi’s for the first time in a decade, and the fans will be certainly hoping their side can produce the kind display they did last night.

An evening to remember, and of course some brilliant social media reactions to boot …
