Peter Schmeichel – Everton v Aston Villa – 2001
It took nine years following the formation of the Premier League for a goalkeeper to score in the top flight, and it was somewhat fitting that the Danish keeper got it considering he was the standout shot-stopper of the era.
Schmeichel’s goal was merely a consolation, though, as he went up for a corner against Everton with the game at 3-1. He volleyed in from close range at the back post, but it wasn’t enough to salvage a point as the match finished 3-2.
