Rio Ferdinand says he would re-sign Manchester City winger Raheem Sterling “tomorrow” if he was Liverpool’s manager.
The England international is said to be unsettled at the Etihad Stadium and Ferdinand believes a return to Anfield should be considered by Reds’ boss Jurgen Klopp:
“There must be clubs sitting there going: ‘Boy, let me see how this situation pans out because I would take Sterling all day’. If I’m Liverpool, I’d buy Sterling tomorrow.”
Fans have still not forgiven Sterling for the way he left Anfield for City six years ago, and their reaction to Ferdinand’s comments on Twitter suggest they would not welcome the 26-year-old back:
Sterling burnt bridges at Anfield when he left. There’s no turning back.

Thankfully Rio is not Liverpool. The disrespect Sterling has shown us during his transfer and after is a bridge too far.

Sterling hasn’t improved since he left Liverpool, and we would not want him back

Sterling has less than two years remaining on his contract with the Citizens, and if he does move clubs, he will be available for a lower price so, in that sense, he would be a viable target.
Other than that, though, it’s hard to see how Sterling could make a stunning return to Merseyside. Stranger things have happened but you do feel that too much water has gone under the bridge for this transfer to be considered by either party.
