Thiago And Rhys Williams To Start, Milner On The Bench: Liverpool’s Predicted XI To Face Southampton

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp was not overly concerned with the 0-0 draw against Newcastle but he will want his players to get his shooting boots back on soon after missing a number of chances at St James’ Park.

They are facing a Southampton team on Monday evening who are struggling for goals themselves, but Ralph Hasenhuttl’s team are a solid defensive unit and they will be hard to break down.

In goal, Alisson Becker will start, with Trent Alexander-Arnold and Andy Robertson as the two fullbacks. Rhys Williams may line up alongside Fabinho and replace Nat Phillips following the centre-back’s struggles against Newcastle.

After giving him 20 minutes against the Magpies, Klopp may hand Thiago Alcantara his first start since the Everton draw back in October, with Jordan Henderson and Georginio Wijnaldum making up the rest of the midfield. James Milner and Curtis Jones could make way.

Up front, it’s likely to be the usual front three of Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino and Mo Salah, although Takumi Minamino could be in with a shout if Klopp decides to rotate.
