The Athletic‘s Liverpool correspondent James Pearce claims the Reds will not shell out on RB Leipzig striker Timo Werner unless the current uncertainty in the transfer market changes.
The Merseyside club reportedly have major doubts about Werner’s £54m valuation in the current financial climate, while the lack of clarity of when the next transfer window will open has halted their plans to make a move for the German.
Supporters on Twitter weren’t particularly pleased about Pearce’s latest update:
This is no excuse sign him up

For the monies made over that last 24 months, surely 50 million is nothing for a club of our size, or are we all been fooled that we are a big club, whereby the owners are actually died hard fans of the club.

It's a shame we spent so much last summer, we should have saved it for this year…… ?

Werner is worth signing even if it means offloading a couple players like Grujic & Shaqiri to pay for the transfer

To be honest, Liverpool seem to be going with the most common-sense approach. There is no point overspending on a player when there is no need to.
If and when it becomes clear when the next transfer window will be, they can then plan ahead, and look to head off potential challenges from the likes of Chelsea and Manchester United for Werner’s signature.
In any case, it appears the 24-year-old’s heart is set on a move to Liverpool so if the forward remains patient, the Reds should not have too many concerns about delaying the transfer.
