Timo Werner Explains Why He Feels Vindicated About Choosing Chelsea Over Liverpool

Chelsea forward Timo Werner now believes he made the right decision to move to Stamford Bridge last summer.

The German international was heavily linked with Liverpool last year but he eventually made the switch to the Blues for £47.5m in July 2020. There were times, though, where he admits that he questioned the choice he made but that is no longer the case:

“I have often asked myself: was it right, was it wrong? Now I can say that it was the right step and the best decision.”

Whether Liverpool were ever genuinely competing to sign Werner, it is up for debate. The impact of the global health crisis meant they weren’t in a position to pay the release clause up front. They instead signed Diogo Jota who, arguably, has turned out to be a better buy.

While Werner has missed a hatful of chances for Chelsea, Jota has been an extremely clinical finisher. Despite starting just twelve league games due to injury, he bagged nine goals, which was three more than his German counterpart managed.
