Top Contenders For The Golden Boot In The Premier League This Season

Anfield

The Premier League season isn’t far away from its conclusion. As teams jostle for position, let’s take a look at the top contenders for the coveted Golden Boot.

The Golden Boot is awarded to the player who has scored the most goals across a Premier League campaign. Players such as Mohamed Salah, Luis Suarez and Michael Owen have own it for Liverpool in the past – but who will be taking home the award this year?

Spoiler warning – there is one player in the Premier League who is currently head and shoulders above the rest. No prizes for guessing who it is!

Ivan Toney

Ivan Toney has taken the Premier League by storm since his arrival in England’s top flight. So far, Brentford’s star man has scored 18 goals in 29 games.

Despite his strong goal tally, he has slowed down somewhat towards the end of the campaign – currently, he has only scored three goals in his last seven games.

While these are by no means unimpressive numbers, they aren’t exactly Golden Boot numbers – especially when you consider the talent of the other players on this list.

Mohamed Salah

Mohamed Salah may have scored fewer goals than Toney this season, but the former Peterborough United man is slowing down somewhat – meanwhile, Salah is hitting his stride.

The only non-striker on the list, Salah’s goalscoring ability from wide positions is the stuff of legend. This season, Salah has netted 15 times – by his standards, this is somewhat below par.

In his first season, Salah shocked everyone when he netted 32 goals over the course of the year. Since then, he has only scored less than 20 goals in a campaign on one occasion.

Harry Kane

Harry Kane has been one of the best strikers in the Premier League for almost ten years now. An extremely intelligent forward, he is just a good at playmaking as he is at goalscoring.

An exceptional finisher, Kane’s technical ability as a forward is second to none. His only weakness is his pace – he often struggles to beat players for quickness.

Shockingly, Kane has never won a trophy in his career, for either his club or his country. Should he leave Tottenham sooner rather than later due to this?

Erling Haaland

Yep, you guessed it – Erling Haaland has run away with it this season, scoring goals left, right and centre – so far, the Norweigan has netted a staggering 32 times.

Haaland has almost redefined what it means to be a centre-forward in the Premier League. He is the complete striker – there is not a single thing he cannot do.

Often, it’s very easy to forget that Haaland is just 22 years old. He displays the instincts and mindset of a veteran, yet he has the strong physical frame of a wonderkid. He is a special player – who knows what the future has in store for him?
