“Top European Clubs Have Called Us” Agent Confirms He Is Working On 70M Summer Transfer For Liverpool Linked Striker

The agent of Benfica striker Darwin Nunez has revealed he has already been contacted by a number of clubs about signing the Uruguayan international.

Edgardo Lasalvia refused to give the names of any specific teams, but he said he will talk to Benfica president Rui Costa about a potential transfer next summer:

“Out of respect and as a matter of professionalism, I cannot say the names of the teams we spoke to. The top European clubs have called us to buy Darwin, this means that he is working well. We are in contact with Benfica in the coming days. I will arrive in Europe and there will be a meeting with Rui Costa. We will work for a negotiation, which will take place in June or July. We are calm, we try to do the best for him and for Benfica.”

Back in early October, it was reported that Liverpool, Chelsea, Bayern Munich and Manchester United were all interested in signing the 22-year-old, but Manchester City were the favourites for his signature.

The Premier League champions have signed Ederson and Ruben Dias from the Portuguese club in recent years, so they have the best chance of snapping up Nunez.

The forward does have a €120m (£101.5m) release clause but it is believed that Benfica would be prepared to let the Uruguayan leave if a bid is made close to £70m. We shall see who makes a formal offer at the end of the season.
