Tuchel Claims Liverpool And City Are Still The “Benchmark” His Chelsea Side Are Aspiring To

Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel has expressed his admiration for Liverpool and Manchester City’s “quality and consistency” over the past few years.

The Blues have been touted as serious contenders for the Premier League by a number of pundits, and currently lead the way at the top of the table; one point above the Reds.

However, Tuchel claims that both Jurgen Klopp’s side and rivals City are the teams he is trying to emulate as they try to mount a title challenge:

“Liverpool and Man City have proven in the last years they are the benchmark in terms of quality and consistency. They have shown what it takes to become champions. We have to improve in every aspect of the game, offensively and defensively, and we will not stop trying to create more for our strikers.”

Tuchel is right to point to Liverpool’s consistency as one of their best traits. While they may have only won one Premier League title, they have accrued 264 points in the league over three seasons.

Klopp’s men have started this campaign in good form as well, currently unbeaten in all competitions. They will be hoping to keep that run going as long as possible heading into a crucial part of the season.
