Tuchel Explains Why Chelsea Can’t Compete With Liverpool Or City After Arsenal Humbling

Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel says he cannot see his team challenging Liverpool or Manchester City based on their form in pre-season.

The Blues, who finished 18 points behind Jurgen Klopp’s side last campaign, were thrashed 4-0 by Arsenal last night, and Tuchel says that, if his team can’t compete with the likes of the Gunners, there is no way they can be considered as title contenders:

“Given our last two weeks, our game today, we should not mention the two teams (Liverpool and Manchester City) in front of us. We got absolutely beaten by a team (Arsenal) that does not play Champions League football next season and finished behind us. But at the moment, they seem far ahead of us.”

While it is not wise to read too much into pre-season results, you would have to say that Chelsea are highly unlikely to make it a three-way tussle for the title this season.

Out of the other contenders who could trouble the likes of Liverpool and City, Tottenham look to be in the best shape. Antonio Conte knows how to win titles and he has strengthened his squad over the summer.

At the bookies, though, Spurs are a distant third in the odds, with most having them at 14/1, while City are currently firm favourites.
