Liverpool travel to Swansea City tonight as they look to extend their unbeaten run to 19 games in all competitions.
Jurgen Klopp’s men travel to the Liberty Stadium on the back of a sensation 4-3 victory over league leaders Manchester City, and will be brimming with confidence going into the tie against the team bottom of the Premier League.
It will, however, be no walk over. In the last four meetings between the two sides, Swansea have come out on top twice in 3-1 and 2-3 victories respectively, and Carlos Carvalhal’s side will be looking to pull off another shock result tonight as they look to turn their season around.
Liverpool must be wary of these to Swansea stars if they are to leave Wales with all three points in hand …
Ayew is the Swans top scorer is season with seven goals, and he has produced three assists for his team-mates too. The Ghanian has overtaken Tammy Abraham as the club’s first choice striker, and as for Wilfried Bony – well, the less said the better.
Ayew is a danger from both inside and outside the box. Smart movement in the 18-yard-box means he has an annoying (for the opposition anyway) tendency to be in the right place at the right time, and he is more than capable of shooting from distance too. Need proof? Just watch his sensational effort against Crystal Palace just before Christmas. The boy’s got talent.
Defender Alfie Mawson will provide a different kind of threat to Liverpool. The Englishman – who has been hotly tipped for an England call-up – is a domineering physical presence in the box, and given Liverpool’s poor record of defending set pieces, he could be a nuisance tonight.
Virgil Van Dijk, will help mitigate the threat Mawson possesses in the air, but he will certainly have his work cut out – Mawson has scored six goals in his season-and-a-half with the Swans.
