Van Der Vaart Claims Ex Liverpool Star “Made A Mistake” After Choosing To Leave Anfield

Former Ajax and Tottenham midfielder Rafael van der Vaart believes Georginio Wijnaldum made the wrong decision when he left Liverpool for Paris Saint-Germain last summer.

The Dutchman struggled during his first season at the Ligue One club, and he was even linked with a loan move back to the Premier League in January, with Arsenal among the main suitors. Van der Vaart claims Wijnaldum will have learned a valuable lesson about choosing which team to play for:

“Wijnaldum made a mistake in choosing PSG. Meanwhile, (Steven) Berghuis made an excellent choice choosing to move from Feyenoord to Ajax. Now, Georginio will understand why making the right choice is so important.”

Wijnaldum’s decision to leave Liverpool on a free transfer did disappoint supporters but, as we have seen with many other players that have left Anfield, the grass is not always greener on the other side.

While he may have some better luck now PSG have changed managers from Mauricio Pochettino to Christophe Galtier, he has a lot to prove after failing to make an impact during his first twelve months in French football.
