Van Dijk hails Alisson’s start to life at Liverpool

Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk has hailed the start to life that goalkeeper Alisson has made at the club, saying that he is enjoying working with the Brazilian.

The stopper joined Liverpool this summer for a then world-record fee paid for a goalkeeper, and eyebrows were raised about whether or not such an astronomical price was worth the risk. But it’s fair to say that there is no doubt about the ‘keeper’s ability, and if he can transfer it from Roma to Anfield then fans are in for a treat.

Alisson made his Premier League debut for the Reds on Sunday as his side won 4-0 against West Ham. It was a convincing match for the goalkeeper, who will hope it’s the first of many clean sheets for him at the club.

Van Dijk, who also broke a transfer record when he joined the Reds, says that he already believes Alisson is adapting well with the Premier League and his new teammates.

Speaking to Liverpool FC’s official website, Van Dijk praised the new goalkeeper, saying that his presence in the team is very good.

“We speak a lot. He’s very vocal and that helps. It helps me and everyone in the backline. I think his presence is very good as well.

“He has a lot of qualities on the ball that help us playing. We’ve worked on [our relationship] the whole pre-season and we’ll keep practising. There’s still a lot to do.

“It’s just one game. We had a good pre-season with good results and games where we’ve played very well.

“But we can do a lot better and it’s just the start. I think the key is we need to be very consistent and do it every game.”

Alisson will be a fantastic addition to the club, and his fee certainly won’t be questioned too much in the games to come.
