Van Nistelrooy Provides Update On The Futures Of Two PSV Stars That Liverpool Have Been Linked With

PSV head coach Ruud van Nistelrooy says he still doesn’t know whether Cody Gakpo or Ibrahim Sangare will be staying at the Eredivisie club ahead of next season.

Gakpo has been mentioned as a target for Liverpool, in addition to Arsenal and Manchester City, while the Reds have also been scouting Sangare, along with Chelsea, Newcastle and Manchester United.

When asked about the pair, van Nistelrooy said he was more confident about Sangare remaining at the Philips Stadion, although he couldn’t give any guarantees that either will still be PSV players beyond the summer:

“I would prefer to know as soon as possible whether they [Sangare and Gakpo] are staying. The sooner the better, but we are dealing with the transfer deadline. I know from Sangare that he really wants to stay, PSV is absolutely no punishment for him. But of course we also know how the market works. If clubs come with the right financial resources, it could be difficult to keep these players.”

It’s probably safe to say that, after signing Darwin Nunez from Benfica, the Reds won’t need another forward, so a move for Gakpo is very unlikely.

There is a greater likelihood of Jurgen Klopp’s side considering a bid for Sangare, though, as it is believed that he has a €35m (£30m) release clause in his contract.
