Liverpool’s midfield is often criticised for having very little creativity, but what it lacks in finesse, it makes up for in work rate and effort. Against Manchester City, Jordan Henderson, Georginio Wijnaldum and Fabinho showed why manager Jurgen Klopp always picks them to start in big games.
They were putting out fires across the pitch, covering the forward runs from fullbacks Trent Alexander-Arnold and Andy Robertson, whilst at the same time helping out with two of the three goals in the 3-1 win. The likes of Wijnaldum, in particular, are unsung heroes to some degree. As you can see in the clip above, the Dutchman is involved in so much that is good about the Reds both in and out of possession.
Of course, there are times when games call for something slightly different in midfield, but for the big games, the so-called “Fab Three” have certainly proven their worth to the side.
