“We Have Seen What Happened” Gullit Warns Salah Against Making The Same Mistake As His Former Teammate

“We Have Seen What Happened” Gullit Warns Salah Against Making The Same Mistake As His Former Teammate

Former Chelsea and Newcastle manager Ruud Gullit has urged Mo Salah to sign a new contract with Liverpool.

The Egyptian is currently locked in discussions with the Reds over extending his deal beyond 2023 but, so far, there has been no breakthrough in negotiations. Gullit cited Georginio Wijnaldum, who left Anfield last summer for PSG, as an example of why it may not be wise to move away from Merseyside:

“I think he should just sign up. We have seen what happened to Wijnaldum, he is now on the bench [at PSG]. He is also old. Do you want to prove yourself somewhere? You are in a team where you can win everything. I would sign as soon as possible and not be too greedy.”

Salah has said himself in a recent interview it is not all about the money and we would like to take his word for that, but you do have to wonder what else he would be asking for?

He is a key player in one of the best teams in the world, competing for honours on all fronts. Reports have suggested that he did reject a £400,000 a week offer from Liverpool and, if that is true, then he may want to listen to Gullit’s warning.
