‘We Need Him Fit!’ ‘Don’t Rush Him’ – Fans Disappointed As Klopp Reveals Liverpool Defender’s Injury Setback

Anfield Stadium

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has confirmed that Joe Gomez is still a couple of weeks away from returning to training.

The centre-back fractured his leg during the 3-1 win against Burnley last month and was expected to be back in action in early February.

However, Klopp confirmed that Gomez suffered a setback in his recovery and they are not quite sure when he’ll be back to full fitness:

“We have to wait, for sure, a couple of weeks. We will see, it is difficult to judge in the moment. We thought three weeks ago he would be closer and then we had to make another diagnosis in which we saw that it didn’t work out so far as we wanted, that’s why he is still not in training or running on the pitch.”

Fans on Twitter are disappointed that he will miss the upcoming league fixtures against Leicester, West Ham and Bournemouth. Some are even concerned he won’t make it back for the Champions League clash against Bayern Munich:

There is some good injury news, though. Dejan Lovren has returned to fitness following a hamstring injury. Both Virgil van Dijk and Fabinho sat out training yesterday due to illness but both are expected to be fit for next Wednesday’s game against Leicester.

It means that Klopp should have at least three fit centre-backs to choose from even without Gomez.
