Liverpool forward Mo Salah matched Steven Gerrard’s record for the most European Cup/Champions League goals for the club, as he got himself on the scoresheet in the 5-0 win over Atalanta on Tuesday night.
The Egyptian international has now equalled the Reds legend’s 21 goals, and asked about reaching the milestone, Salah replied he was delighted to match the record of an Anfield icon:
“Of course, I’m very happy to be the highest one. Steven Gerrard is a legend for the club. It’s something I’m very proud of.”
Salah is very much a club legend in his own right now, and supporters on Twitter were full of praise for the 28-year-old and the record he has matched:

The Egyptian is in excellent form at the moment. The nine goals in 12 appearances he has managed at the start of this campaign is his best-ever start to a season.
Salah has had to negotiate some controversy this week over the way he won the penalty against West Ham last weekend but, among Liverpool supporters, he will always be remembered purely as a goal machine.
