Which players will add the quality Liverpool need to challenge for the title?

With the English summer transfer window in full swing, many Premier League clubs have acted fast to secure some early signings to get ahead of their rival for the upcoming season.

Liverpool have made some early efforts to catch up with their rivals, signing Fabinho from Monaco in a £40m+ deal. They’re also linked with a host of other big money signings, some of which are mouth-watering prospects to say the least.

Below we have compiled five of the Reds’ top transfer targets this year with a short profile on each of them, explaining why Liverpool should go all out to bring them to Anfield. If you’re sold on a particular target, be sure to leave a vote on our poll situated at the end of the article.

Jan Oblak

The Atletico Madrid goalkeeper is rated as one of the best in the world, with only really David De Gea being able to stake a claim in front of him at this moment in time. Statistically, since he’s been at Atletico, he has been one of the most important players at the club, having only conceded on average around 0.5 goals per game! The 25-year-old has already made well over 100 appearances for Atletico and is regarded as the most sought-after goalkeepers in the game. It would take a hefty fee, but could the Reds prize Oblak away?

Mario Gotze

The German has struggled to recreate the form he produced during the last World Cup where he scored the winner for his country. Having yo-yoed from Dortmund to Bayern and then back to Dortmund, the midfielder is now flirting with the prospect of working under Jurgen Klopp again at Liverpool – with the Reds in for an attacking midfielder following the departure of Philippe Coutinho. Gotze wouldn’t cost a bomb, and if he can show a similar level of form to what he displayed under Klopp last time then we’d be in for a treat.

Nabil Fekir

Fekir is one of the most exciting players in the world at present. He’s been heavily linked with a move to Anfield all summer, and at one point it looked like a deal might be done and dusted. The latest reports suggest than any potential move is off the cards and that he will stay at Lyon, but perhaps this is just a plot from the French side to drive the price up further. Fekir would be a welcomed signing by all Reds fans, but will they break the bank to get their man?

Alisson

The Brazilian No.1 must be special if he can keep City stopper Ederson out from between the sticks. Alisson has been hugely impressive during his time at Roma, attracting interest from Liverpool, Chelsea and Real Madrid to name but a few. The stumbling block with Alisson is almost certainly the price it will cost to prize him away from Italy, with Roma already suggesting it would take a goalkeeping world record fee to persuade them into selling arguably their biggest asset. Liverpool are in need of a goalkeeper though, and Alisson is certainly a huge improvement on what they currently have.

Gareth Bale

However unlikely it may seem that Bale would join Liverpool, it might be worth considering that the Wales international has already talked about the possibility of him leaving Los Blancos whilst also admitting he would want to return to the Premier League. With Spurs almost certainly out of the race, it leaves only Chelsea, Liverpool and United as realistic options for the winger. Bale would cost upwards of £80m, but he is one of the best players in the world – who can argue with that?

So who would you take at Liverpool this summer? Let us know by voting in the poll below.
