Why Liverpool May Only Need To DRAW Tonight To Qualify For The Champions League Knockout Stages

Liverpool can draw against Atalanta tonight at Anfield and still qualify for the Champions League knockout stages with two games to spare, but only if the result goes their way in the other group game.

If Ajax do not win against FC Midtjylland at home this evening, it means a point will be enough for Jurgen Klopp’s men to progress. This is because even though Ajax and Atalanta would still only be five points behind them with six points up for grabs, both teams won’t be able to get two wins as they still have to play each other.

Of course, to make completely sure of qualification without relying on other results, Liverpool will be looking to get a victory versus Atalanta this evening. The Premier League champions did win 5-0 in the reverse fixture but the Reds’ injury problems mean they are somewhat understrength heading into the encounter.

Their opponents, though, are not exactly going into the match full of confidence themselves having won once in their last six games.
