Winning PFA Player of a Year “a huge honour” says Mohamed Salah

Moahamed Salah says it’s a “huge honour” to have been named the PFA Player of the Year.

The Egyptian beat off competition from Manchester City’s title-winners Kevin De Bruyne, David Silva and Leroy Sane, as well as Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea and Tottenham striker Harry Kane to claim the award.

Salah joined Liverpool last summer in a £34 million from AS Roma, and has enjoyed a stellar first season at Anfield – scoring 41 goals in just 46 games across all competitions for Jurgen Klopp’s side.

He is also the Premier League’s leading scorer with 31 goals, with one more strike being enough to see him break the current record for most goals scored in a 38-game season.

Salah equalled the record held by Cristiano Ronaldo, Luis Suarez and Alan Shearer during the weekend’s 2-2 draw with West Bromwich Albion.

After being voted by his peers to scoop the prestigious award, Salah said: “It’s a big honour. I don’t think about myself. The most important thing is to win something with the team and we’re very close now with the semi-final. Hopefully we’re going to win.

“The team has helped me a lot because of the way we play. They pass me the ball a lot and always try to find me.”
