Liverpool forward Mo Salah has been named on a three-man shortlist for Fifa’s Player of the Year. He is joined by Cristiano Ronaldo and Luka Modric in the running for the prize with Barcelona’s Lionel Messi omitted for the first time in over a decade.
The Egyptian has also been nominated for the Puskas Award for the best goal. His curling effort in the Merseyside Derby is one of ten goals that can be voted on by the general public here.
Fans were delighted by Salah’s nomination on Twitter:

It’s great to see Egyptian get the recognition he deserves for quite an incredible year. 44 goals in all competitions last season was a superhuman effort, and while not many believe he will replicate that feat this campaign, he is certainly proving he isn’t a one season wonder.
The 28-year-old has two goals and two assists from his first four games so far this season, and he continues to be the club’s most feared attacking threat.
