World Cup Finalist Claims Liverpool Legend Is His “Idol” As He Considers Free Transfer Move To The Premier League

Juventus midfielder Adrien Rabiot has revealed that he was a big “fan” of Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard growing up.

Speaking about a whole range of topics in an interview with the Italian media, the World Cup finalist said the Reds have a special place in his heart as he idolised Gerrard:

“I liked Liverpool so much because I was a fan of Steven Gerrard who made me dream and therefore I followed the Reds. My other idol was [Zinedine] Zidane.”

Rabiot is out of contract at the end of the season and he can already speak to foreign clubs about a free transfer. Most of the Premier League’s ‘Big Six’, including Liverpool, Tottenham, Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester United have been mentioned as potential destinations but the Frenchman has emphasised that staying at Juve is also still an option:

“At the moment, there’s no news, but we’ll certainly talk soon because in about two months the season will be over and we’ll try to discuss it, but I’m calm. There is the possibility of leaving but also the possibility of signing another contract with Juve.”

The main problem appears to be the salary. Rabiot’s mother is also his agent and she is known to be a very tough negotiator. A move to United collapsed last summer after failing to agree personal terms. With that in mind, it’s probably unlikely that he will end up at Anfield.
