Arsenal legend Thierry Henry has credited Mo Salah for his pass that led to Sadio Mane scoring Liverpool’s second goal against Villarreal last night.

Salah did not get on the scoresheet but Henry believes that his excellent assist was the hallmark of a player who has improved his all round game massively since arriving at Anfield:

“That’s more than a cute pass. He meant to put the ball in between the legs of the defender. That’s outstanding. The pass of Salah was just outstanding. We can talk about the line or whatever. Salah meant that to happen. It’s outstanding. You can’t defend that.”

“The ball can pass and go through that. That pass, this is why Mo Salah this season, he is better than what he used to be. To make that ball go through the legs at a particular moment and he meant it. To pass it to Mane. Wow.”

Salah’s contribution to the goal was certainly not widely recognised by others, and the Egyptian’s assist record in general has definitely not been talked about enough.

Pundits, including former Liverpool midfielder Graeme Souness, have labelled Salah as greedy but that is far from the case. The forward now has 14 assists in all competitions this season.

You only have to look back at the weekend for another excellent example of Salah’s creativity and selflessness. His chipped cross set up Andy Robertson for the opener against Everton. That was a crucial goal in a tight game that the Reds struggled to create clear-cut chances in.

As Henry rightly points out, Salah has improved all aspects of his game over the past five years and he deserves much more recognition for that.
