Wright Believes Liverpool’s “New Signing” Could Give Midfield New Dimension

TV pundit Ian Wright is backing Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain to add a new dimension to Liverpool’s midfield after the international break.

The 25-year-old has been sidelined for a whole year with a knee injury but he’s expected to take part in the Premier League run-in after returning to full training.

Wright believes Oxlade-Chamberlain is effectively like a new signing for the Reds and can add a different option to the Merseyside club’s midfield:

“He’s somebody that will be like a new signing at this stage of the season, giving Liverpool from the midfield a kind of dynamic that they’ve not had, for me, all season.”

“So it’s one of those situations where he looks as though he’s pretty much ready, looks very confident and very ready to go.”

“And if he can come in at this stage and give them that last little element to push them over the line, he’s got everything in that respect.”

The fact that the former Arsenal star has been out for so long means you cannot expect too much, too soon from the player.

Oxlade-Chamberlain was in superb form at the back end of last season before his injury, but it would be too much to expect him to return to that level straight away.

However, his ability to make forward runs and break defensive lines does, as Wright points out, give the Liverpool midfield more dynamism.
