Wright Explains Why He Is Backing “Phenomenal” Liverpool Star To Succeed Despite Making Chelsea/Torres Admission

Arsenal legend Ian Wright says he will steadfastly stick to his belief that Darwin Nunez will succeed at Liverpool despite also previously backing Fernando Torres to find his feet with Chelsea.

The Spaniard struggled throughout his four years at Stamford Bridge after leaving Anfield, but Wright feels Nunez does have the ability to become a prolific scorer during his time on Merseyside:

“I am desperate for him to score. He is trying to shoot from angles that are not good angles. Darwin Nunez’s touches at that pace are phenomenal, that’s why I am desperate for it to click. When it clicks, I think he will cause an unbelievable amount of problems.⁣⁣”

“When it comes to strikers, I can’t help but side with them. The one I sided with for so long was Torres back at Chelsea, I had to stay with that – and I’m doing that with Darwin Nunez at the minute.”

Composure is the one thing that Nunez seems to be lacking at the moment. The Uruguayan has all the attributes to succeed in the Premier League but his end product has left a lot to be desired.

Some of that is definitely down to confidence. The 23-year-old is second-guessing himself at times, leading him to make the wrong decision, while his execution when shooting is erratic. You do feel that, at some stage, everything will just click, as Wright says, but only time will tell in that regard.
