Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp says he is confident that Virgil van Dijk will be fit to face Arsenal this weekend.
The Dutchman missed the 0-0 draw against Chelsea on Tuesday evening but, when asked about his availability for the Gunners match, Klopp replied that he expects the player to return against the league leaders:
“Yeah, yeah, yeah. He was ill but until the weekend we have a few days.”
Considering van Dijk’s poor recent form, there is even an argument for keeping the centre-half on the bench for Sunday’s game, especially after the Reds got a clean sheet without him midweek.
However, it should be pointed out that Klopp’s men did concede a lot of chances at Stamford Bridge and, if there is a repeat of that versus Arsenal, they could be on the receiving end of a hiding.
With that being the case, a recall for van Dijk is expected. As Klopp mentions, he does have five days to recover from illness, so you would think that would be enough time to get back to full fitness.
