Young Midfielder Is Key To Liverpool Success

There’s a new kid in town where Liverpool are concerned – since becoming a regular in the first team, Stefan Bajetic has been fantastic.

After scoring his first Premier League goal against Aston Villa, Bajcetic caught the eye of both Jurgen Klopp and the Liverpool fanbase. He was given his first start against Chelsea, where he put in a steady, if unspectacular performance. It wasn’t the most rousing of debuts, but he did everything that was asked of him.

Liverpool have struggled in midfield this season. Energy in the middle of the park has been sorely lacking – Arthur was a confusing signing who added little, Thiago has been injured, Oxlade-Chamberlain isn’t good enough and both Jordan Henderson and James Milner are too old to be sufficiently active in a box-to-box role.

Enter Bajcetic, who has provided the legs in midfield that the Reds have been sorely missing. He’s a confident player who is always looking to play his teammates in or receive a pass.

Since Bajcetic has begun starting for Liverpool, the Reds have won two, drawn one and lost one. They were poor in their defeat against Wolves – but this can be chalked up to a mere bad day at the office, where the whole team underperformed.

He looked excellent against Everton in the Merseyside derby, controlling the midfield and moving the ball quicker than the Toffees could handle. He was named man of the match by several audiences for his brilliant display.

The 18-year-old has started Liverpool’s last four Premier League games and has looked good value for his inclusion on each occasion. Will he have a role to play in Liverpool’s Champions League encounter with reigning champions Real Madrid? It would be a big call but may be one that the midfielder is ready foir.
