Zubizarreta Confirms Interest In Liverpool Defender With January Swoop On The Cards

Marseille sporting director Andoni Zubizarreta has confirmed the Ligue One side are interested in Liverpool left-back Alberto Moreno.

The Spaniard’s contract expires in the summer, but when asked if Marseille could make a move for the fullback in January, Zubizarreta said he was open to the possibility:

“I know him very well from his time at Sevilla. Normally, it’s not our market [January], though there may be circumstances that open up possibilities, it’s interesting.”

However, he believes that Moreno’s former club Sevilla are also keen on re-signing him:

“It’s also interesting for Sevilla, who are looking for a left-back.”

Either club could sign the 26-year-old on a pre-contract agreement, but one may look to get an edge over the other by making a bid for the fullback during the January transfer window.

Whether Reds manager Jurgen Klopp would be open to letting Moreno leave midway through the season, it remains to be seen. The Liverpool boss has already stated that he doesn’t foresee the Merseyside club doing any business when the market reopens.

However, the chance of getting some cash for Moreno rather than allowing him to leave for nothing in the summer may tempt the Reds into selling up.
