Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has once again emphasised that the club won’t be spending big in this summer’s transfer window.
The Reds have only signed one player in Sepp van den Berg so far, who cost £4.4m, but despite calls from supporters to invest in strengthening the squad, the manager is having none of it:
“How I said, it will not be the biggest transfer window of LFC; we invested a lot in the team in the last two years, I would say. We cannot spend every year in the same manner.”
“People talk about it like, ‘Now another £300m or £200m’. There are maybe only two clubs in the world – it looks in the moment like Barcelona and [Real] Madrid can do the same – City and PSG that can do it every year.”
Needless to say, fans on Twitter were left frustrated and disappointed with Klopp’s remarks:
well that’s that then

This means we are throwing away the fa cup and league cup away again. Mediocre mentality

Every single time we have the chance to capitalise on a situation we blow it. Absurd decision that will come back to haunt us.

Might as well hand @ManCity the title

A few supporters were, though, backing Klopp’s approach:
The absolute state of the comments in response to this. 97 points and the champions league. We’re good, people. Chill out.

Agreed! Just had our best season w an evolving squad. Key players returning from injury. If u don’t trust Klopp + FSG by now then just stick to computer games. Bunch of whining brats w their Xmas wish lists. Sure we need a back up FWD/ LB but if the best ain’t available, so be it

After winning the Champions League and losing just one game in the Premier League, some may say there is no need to spend heavily this summer.
However, the lack of depth in Liverpool’s squad could well be exposed due to the number of games the Reds will play next season.
As well as the three domestic competitions, they have the Club World Cup to play in December, the European Super Cup final, the Community Shield and the Champions League.
With players returning late to preseason training because of international commitments too, there is a big danger that the Reds could start the season slowly with a threadbare first team. That could prove costly if the club have ambitions of winning the Premier League.
