Alexander-Arnold hails Liverpool’s summer signings

Trent Alexander-Arnold has hailed Liverpool’s summer transfer business and says he expects the new additions to have a big impact at Anfield this season.

The Reds have spent over £160 million to bring in four new players this summer: Brazil number one Alisson Becker; holding midfielder Fabinho; winger Xherdan Shaqiri and finally Naby Keita, who joined a year after agreeing a deal to move to Anfield from RB Leipzig.

The latter three have all featured and impressed in Liverpool’s pre-season tour of America, while Alisson is expected to make his debut in the friendly against Napoli on Saturday.

“We have made some really good signings,” said Alexander-Arnold speaking of the Reds summer signings, “It’s making our squad stronger and it makes us a better team.

“When you’re training with better players then you automatically get better because you’re challenging yourself more. That’s the main goal: to challenge yourself day in, day out and improve yourself.”

Alexander-Arnold himself is finally back in training after a post-World Cup holiday – the full-back joined up with his new and old team-mates at their campo in Evian on Tuesday.

The 19-year-old was awarded a spot in Gareth Southgate’s England squad for the tournament in Russia following a terrific breakthrough season at Anfield in which he helped Jurgen Klopp’s side reach the Champions League final.

And the defender says he hopes he can replicate that form this time round and help Liverpool challenge for the Premier League title.

“Being able to represent your country at a World Cup and playing in a Champions League final at 19 is something not many people can say they’ve done. It was a very proud summer,” said Alexander-Arnold.

“We never quite reached the silverware and got the medals we all wanted but it gives you that bit more of an appetite going forward. Hopefully this season will bring silverware.”
