“Always Complicated…” Potter Speaks Out On £80K A Week Chelsea’s Star’s Future As Liverpool Circle

Chelsea manager Graham Potter decided against addressing Mason Mount’s future when asked about his contract situation in a press conference on Friday.

Liverpool, Manchester United, Manchester City and Newcastle are all said to be keeping tabs on developments with the midfielder’s current deal set to expire in under eighteen months. When prompted to provide an update on Mount, Potter said:

“It is always complicated. There’s always negotiations. It is best that I leave it between Mason and the club. It is the best way for that to be dealt with. As far as I am concerned, he is fantastic to work with. He is an important player for us. I hope it gets resolved quickly.”

There are two major issues that could lead to Mount being sold next summer. He is keen on getting pay parity with other first-team players but Chelsea have so far not offered a satisfactory increase on the £80,000 a week he’s currently earning.

The Blues also want to hand him a seven-year contract, which would effectively prevent him from renegotiating new terms in the future.

Mount is reportedly keen to remain at Stamford Bridge but Potter’s remarks suggest the two sides have reached a stalemate. Whether that will open up an opportunity for Liverpool, we shall have to wait and see.
