West Ham vice-chairman Karren Brady has suggested that the Premier League season should be made “null and void” following the Coronavirus break.
Such an outcome would stop Liverpool from winning the title but Brady thinks cancelling the campaign is the only realistic option if the final nine games can’t be played:
“As games in both the PL and in the EFL are affected, the only fair and reasonable thing to do is declare the whole season null and void.”
“Who knows who would have gone down or come up if the games have not actually been played in full? A huge blow to Liverpool who might be robbed of their first title in 30 years.”
Unsurprisingly Brady’s explosive comments did not go down too well with Reds fans on Twitter:
Karen Brady is an absolute joke. I guarantee she wouldn’t be saying that the season should be void if her club was on the verge of winning the league. Unfortunately her & many others are going to be involved in the final decision??♀️ Lets hope they make a fair one ?#coronavirus

She’d have a different opinion if it was decided on recent form…they’d be relegated before Norwich. It’s quite embarrassing that someone whose been lauded as intelligent in the past makes ludicrous comments like this.

Voiding the season would without doubt see some clubs taking legal action about the fact they’ve possibly been denied promotion. This doesn’t seem to have crossed dear Karen’s mind however!

Currently, Premier League matches are suspended until April 3rd, but with the pandemic expected to get worse, there is no certainty as to when the season will be able to get underway again.
Brady’s remarks do not take into consideration the lawsuits that would result from a cancelled season, with the likes of Leeds and West Brom to miss out on hundreds of millions of pounds if they are not promoted.
An emergency meeting at the Premier League will be held next week to determine what plans will be put in place.
