Carragher Names The Two Liverpool Players That Klopp Must Start Against City To ‘Save’ Their Season

Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher has called on manager Jurgen Klopp to start both Ozan Kabak and Ben Davies when they face Manchester City at Anfield on Sunday.

Kabak wasn’t even on the bench for the defeat to Brighton on Wednesday, while Davies was an unused substitute, but Carragher insists that the two new signings must be in the eleven if they are to win this weekend:

“I hope Klopp gives Kabak his debut, allowing Jordan Henderson to return to midfield and giving Liverpool a more familiar look in several positions. Klopp may be reluctant to throw in a new player against such a quality side. It feels low risk given where Liverpool are. It’s a big ask for Kabak and Davies, but it is ‘sink or swim’ at this level.”

“That was the case for Dias when he joined from Benfica, the world watching to see if he would solve City’s problems. He has. To save this year’s ambitions, Liverpool need their new recruits to do the same.”

It’s an interesting call by Carragher. In one sense, he is right, as the Reds are so far behind in the title race that sending out two players for their debut, in such a big game, is rather less risky than it would otherwise have been.

However, Klopp is not one for making such gambles. He likes players to be settled into his system before giving them a run in the side. For that reason alone, it’s likely that Carragher will be disappointed with the starting lineup that will be picked.

It is believed that Jordan Henderson will be partnered with Fabinho if the Brazilian proves his fitness before Sunday’s match.
