Chelsea are one of five clubs interested in signing Liverpool midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum on a free transfer, according to the Gazzetta Dello Sport.

The Italian newspaper were reporting on Roma’s interest in the 30-year-old, when they are also mentioned four other teams, including the Blues, Barcelona, Paris Saint-Germain and Inter Milan.

Wijnaldum is now very unlikely to be staying at Anfield, with the Reds having failed to come up with a satisfactory contract offer, leaving the Dutchman with a decision to make about his future.

It would still be a surprise if the midfielder opted to move to a Premier League rival, but it is not unheard of for players to make the switch from Liverpool to Chelsea.

Very rarely, though, does the move work out for the player and, considering the stage Wijnaldum is at in his career, he may be looking for a fresh challenge in a different league.
