Club CEO Claims Liverpool Have Lost His Email Address Amid Claims The Reds Will Bid For 65M Rated Midfield Dynamo

Brighton Chief Executive Paul Barber has confirmed that the Seagulls have not received an official bid for Moises Caicedo in January so far.

Liverpool (along with the likes of Chelsea, Manchester United and Newcastle) have been heavily linked with the Ecuadorian international in recent weeks but, when asked whether the Reds had tabled an offer, Barber replied:

“I’m pleased to say we haven’t had any [bids]. Maybe Liverpool haven’t got my email because I haven’t seen any.”

A £42m price tag for Caicedo was mentioned back in the summer transfer window, which was dismissed as derogatory by then manager Graham Potter and Barber has reiterated those remarks:

“I’m not sure £42m will even include the boots now, maybe just the laces. But joking aside, every player’s value is ultimately determined by the market. Graham’s comments were part in jest but part serious because Moises has been an exceptional player for us. Since he came to the Premier League, he has developed all the time. He’s a young man with a great attitude, fantastic work ethic and a very nice human being off the pitch. So all those things contribute to the value of a footballer should it come to that moment to sell.”

In terms of his actual price, reports have suggested that Brighton may consider offloading Caicedo if they receive a fee of around £65m (including add-ons).

Whether that is an accurate valuation, it is hard to know. Barber certainly seems open to selling the 21-year-old but the Seagulls are renowned for being very shrewd negotiators, having sold Marc Cucurella to Chelsea for a staggering £62m last year.
