Club Director Confirms Liverpool’s Interest In ‘New Neymar’ Who Has 52M Release Clause

Santos director Jorge Andrade has confirmed that Liverpool are keeping tabs on young forward Angelo Gabriel.

The teenager has been compared to a young Neymar by some in the press, but when asked about reported interest in the player, Andrade revealed that the Reds are just one of a number of European clubs scouting him:

“Angelo is a boy who has been growing, developing and (the scouts) are certainly watching him. Not only Liverpool but other teams in the European market as well.”

Gabriel has only made 14 senior appearances in his career so far, but that hasn’t stopped Santos from slapping a €60m (£52m) release clause on the forward.

The 16-year-old generally plays off the right flank, cutting in onto his stronger left foot, although he can play right across the backline.

With Manchester City and Real Madrid also thought to be after Gabriel, Liverpool will likely have a battle on their hands to secure the Brazilian Under 17 international’s signature.

If it comes down to finances, the Reds may not be in the strongest position but the promise of developing his game under manager Jurgen Klopp could be seen as an attractive option.
