Collymore Backs Liverpool To Sign “Fantastic” Portuguese Playmaker Ahead Of Next Season

Anfield Stadium

Ex-Liverpool striker Stan Collymore believes that manager Jurgen Klopp will want to bring in some big name players this summer in order to overhaul Manchester City.

The pundit doesn’t believe the Reds should rest on their laurels after missing out on the title by just one point this season, and he thinks his former club should pursue Wolves midfielder Ruben Neves:

“He’ll know he needs a couple of marquee signings — Ruben Neves would be fantastic for Liverpool — and for his squad not to drop points in such games as the games against Manchester United and Everton.”

Liverpool did strengthen in midfield last summer after securing deals for Naby Keita and Fabinho, but they did miss out in signing Lyon’s Nabil Fekir.

Fekir and Neves are very different players, though, with the former both a scorer and a creator, while the Portuguese international contributes very little in terms of goals and assists.

The 22-year-old has managed just five goals this season; the same number as Georginio Wijnaldum and two fewer than James Milner.

Neves has also reportedly interested Manchester City in recent months but manager Pep Guardiola has stated the player would cost too much.
