“Fits The Profile…” Barnes Calls On 106M Rated South American Star To Snub City And Arsenal For Liverpool

Liverpool legend John Barnes believes Benfica midfielder Enzo Fernandez would “seamlessly fit” into Jurgen Klopp’s team.

The Reds have been heavily linked with the Argentinian international, who has a €120m (£106m) release clause. Other Premier League clubs have also been mentioned as potential suitors for the World Cup winner but Barnes feels Fernandez’s style of play means he would be better off moving to Merseyside:

“He’s a very aggressive, hard working midfield player which suits Liverpool but may not suit Man City or Arsenal. Enzo fits the profile of a player Liverpool would want. That’s a player I feel could seamlessly fit into what Liverpool want. He’s combative and has good technique. He’s not a David Silva or a Kevin De Bruyne which is what Man City want but he would suit us.”

There has been a lot of speculation over the past week regarding a potential offer for Fernandez, with conflicting stories coming out of Portugal on whether Liverpool have already made a bid for the 21-year-old.

Sources closer to the club have dismissed the reports, although (as we have seen in previous transfer windows), foreign journalists are usually more reliable when it comes to predicting who the Reds are going to sign.

Fernandez’s current price tag does look pretty prohibitive so a January move looks out of the question at the moment. Things could, however, change in the summer.
