Five Best Liverpool Strikers Of The Premier League Including Former Chelsea Hitman

Over the course of the Premier League era, Liverpool has been home to some of the best strikers the world has ever seen.

We’ll be looking at a host of players for this list – from home-grown talents to international superstars, we have left no stone unturned.

Liverpool have literally had a production line for strikers as many of their top hitmen were developed via the club’s academy and coaching system.

There’s also one player on this list who is still at the club – can you guess who it is?

Roberto Firmino

If you guessed Roberto Firmino, you’d be right! The Brazilian is more than deserving of a spot on this list – he combines brilliant movement with solid interplay – in many ways, he’s more of a playmaker than he is a striker.

But that’s not to downplay his abilities as a centre forward. Firmino is a great finisher – but he is at his best when fashioning chances for his teammates.

He was perhaps most comfortable when playing in between Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane – together, the trio often looked unstoppable.

Ian Rush

Ian Rush is widely regarded as one of the best British strikers of all time – however, when the Premier League era rolled along, the Welsh hitman had gone beyond his prime years.

When playing at the peak of his abilities, Rush was the archetypal pacy hitman. His quickness, coupled with his clinical nature in front of goal, made him a lethal centre forward who arguably is the best pure finisher to have played for the Reds.

While he wasn’t at his best during the Premier League era, he was still a force to be reckoned with. Outside of Liverpool, Rush also played for Newcastle United under Kenny Dalglish.

Fernando Torres

Fernando Torres, despite his talents, suffered after leaving Liverpool. When he began playing for Chelsea, he certainly wasn’t the player he used to be.

And what a player he used to be! At Liverpool, Torres was excellent – his ability on the ball, combined with his composure in front of goal made for a deadly pair of attributes.

His almost telepathic connection with Steven Gerrard made for one of the best assist and goal combinations ever to play in the Premier League.

A goal machine in the truest sense, it’s a shame it didn’t work out for him after leaving the club – who knows what he may have gone on to achieve had he kept his confidence?

Robbie Fowler

Affectionately nicknamed ‘God’ by Liverpool fans, he wasn’t just gifted this moniker – Fowler earned it with his canny movement and incredible finishing.

The Toxteth-born talisman’s finishing ability is widely regarded as one of the best in history. There are few players who were more composed in front of goal than Robbie Fowler. While not blessed with blistering pace Fowler had a superb football brain often anticipating what his team-mates were going to do before they did it.

Outside of his two stints at Anfield, Fowler spent time at a host of clubs across his career, including Leeds United, Manchester City and Blackburn Rovers.

Luis Suarez

Some may see this as a controversial pick – Suarez wasn’t at Liverpool for a considerable amount of time – but the impact he made at the club during his stint was incredible.

The Uruguayan made 110 appearances for the Reds, scoring 69 times. He had a particular penchant for scoring wonder goals of all kinds, including solo strikes, long-range efforts and spectacular volleys.

While Suarez won just a single trophy with Liverpool (the League Cup in 2012), his overall talents are what have landed him in the number one spot.

Many will wonder how Michael Owen did not make this list but in many ways he should have but leaving Liverpool when he did meant he did not leave the legacy that he could have at the club after leaving form his ill fated spells at Real Madrid and Newcastle United.
