Gary Neville Likens Darwin Nunez To “Erratic” Arsenal Star

Sky Sports pundit Gary Neville says Darwin Nunez‘s recent performances for Liverpool remind him of Arsenal’s Gabriel Jesus.

Nunez has been criticised for his poor finishing since arriving at Anfield and Neville believes the Uruguayan must try to emulate his teammate Mo Salah to prevent him from being labelled as an “erratic” finisher like Jesus:

“Jesus, at £40m, will always be a player who is erratic in his goalscoring, but I love him as a player. Salah has been devastating for five years, and he [Nunez] is going to have to decide whether he’s the Jesus-type or the Salah-type.”

“He can’t be a Jesus-type player for £90m. He has to be a goalscorer, and that will be the big question over the next 12 to 18 months. Jurgen Klopp usually gets the best out of his strikers, so I wouldn’t put it past him.”

While there is certainly a lot of criticism from those outside the club, Reds supporters are firmly behind him. Throughout the game against Leicester on Friday, the Anfield crowd were shouting Nunez’s name, as they appreciate what qualities he is bringing to the table.

He possesses power and pace in abundance, while his work rate is second to none. If he can add more goals to his game, though, he would certainly be a force to be reckoned with. In a lot of ways, he is reminiscent of Luis Suarez, who also struggled in front of goal when he first arrived on Merseyside. We shall see how Nunez’s game evolves over the coming months.
