“He’s Been Outstanding” Crooks Praises Liverpool Star As He Names Three Reds In Team Of The Week

BBC pundit Garth Crooks claims Liverpool can do “anything” this season, as long as Virgil van Dijk stays fit and healthy.

The centre-back put in another imperious display at Elland Road against Leeds last night and Crooks feels that the defender is just as threatening in the opposing box as he is defending balls into the Reds’ penalty area:

“He knew he couldn’t score directly from the set-piece but Liverpool’s second goal came as a result of him putting the ball back in the danger zone. Van Dijk was part of another clean sheet against Leeds but looks menacing in the opposition penalty area once again. He’s been outstanding for Liverpool since his return. Ten points for them, no wins for Leeds. With Van Dijk in the team anything is possible for Liverpool again.”

Van Dijk has been superb since returning to fitness. Many felt it would take time for the Dutchman to recover his best form, but it seems that the long injury layoff has not affected his ability to defend at the highest level whatsoever.

Crooks also named Thiago and Trent Alexander-Arnold, alongside van Dijk, in his “Team of the Week.” The rest of the eleven consisted of three Chelsea players (Edouard Mendy, Thiago Silva and Romelu Lukaku), three Manchester United stars (Luke Shaw, Bruno Fernandes and Cristiano Ronaldo), as well as Manchester City’s Bernardo Silva and Crystal Palace’s Wilfried Zaha.
