Liverpool attacking midfielder Harvey Elliott has been selected in WhoScored.com‘s Team of the Week.
The 21-year-old deservedly made the eleven after putting in a player-of-the-match performance as the Reds won 4-2 against Tottenham at the weekend.
Elliott not only scored a howitzer from outside the box, he also provided the assist for Cody Gakpo, made 5 key passes, as well recovering the ball on 7 different occasions.
The England Under 21 international was outstanding in all aspects of his game versus Spurs, and he has started to produce the goods on a consistent basis since the turn of the year.
Klopp was full of praise for the Liverpool star after the game
Speaking in his post-match press conference on Sunday, manager Jurgen Klopp said that Elliott put in one of his best displays in a Liverpool shirt:
“I think in the midfield position, it was probably [in the] top three or four performances of him today – it was really good and the goal was exceptional. Everybody needs moments to gain even more confidence. He is [in] a good moment, but that helps, definitely. He worked really hard in the other direction as well, he did really well.”
Who else joins Elliott in Whoscored’s Team of the Week?
Aston Villa’s Robin Olsen was chosen as the goalkeeper. Despite making seven saves against Brighton, he was unable to prevent his team from losing 1-0.
In defence, Fulham’s Issa Diop, Chelsea veteran Thiago Silva and Crystal Palace’s Chris Richards make up a back three.
Elliott is joined in midfield by Chelsea duo Noni Madueke and Cole Palmer, as well as Nottingham Forest winger Callum Hudson-Odoi and Palace’s Michael Olise (who scored twice in a 4-0 win over Manchester United).
Up front, two players were given a perfect 10.0 rating by WhoScored. Manchester City’s Erling Haaland was unsurprisingly included, having scored four times versus Wolves, while Chelsea forward Nicolas Jackson was also recognised for his brace and assist against West Ham.
