“He’s Got Absolutely Everything” Micah Richards Weighs In On Trent Alexander Arnold V Reece James Debate

BBC pundit Micah Richards claims that Chelsea right-back Reece James is a “better” player than Liverpool’s Trent Alexander-Arnold.

While the former Manchester City defender says he can’t separate the two in terms of their contributions in the final third, he feels James has the edge on Alexander-Arnold as a defender:

“If you look at Reece James, he’s got a great right foot. He can take free-kicks, corners, whatever. Who’s got a better delivery than Reece James? There’s only Trent Alexander-Arnold who’s got that. I think Reece James potentially can be [a better defender]. He’s got more of a frame; he can play a right of a three as well. He’s got all the qualities because he’s physically good. He reads the game well, he’s good on the ball. He can cross it and he’s an athlete. So, he’s got absolutely everything. So, I would say Reece James.”

On current form, it is hard to argue with Richards’ remarks. Trent’s defending (especially against Brighton at the weekend) has been very concerning this campaign.

In contrast, James has been part of a defence that has let in just three goals in ten league matches. When we look at their performances in the final third as well, James has scored four in seven appearances, as well as providing two assists.

Trent does sometimes start the season slowly and it will be hoped that his form does improve in the coming weeks and months. The 23-year-old really doesn’t look himself at the moment.
