TV pundit Charlie Nicholas thinks Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp should leave Mo Salah out of the starting line up for tonight’s game against Genk in the Champions League.
The 27-year-old has been struggling with an ankle injury recently and only lasted an hour in the Reds’ 2-1 win versus Aston Villa at the weekend, and Nicholas says it could be an opportunity to rest the forward this evening:
“It is normally Firmino who he rests, but I would leave him in with Mane and leave Salah out. He may not like it but it needs to happen. Divock Origi and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain will come in and I think it will be a fairly comfortable night nevertheless for Liverpool.”
It’s a fair shout from Nicholas. There is no need to risk Salah in a game that Liverpool are heavy favourites to win, and with Divock Origi waiting in the wings, the Egyptian could drop to the bench.
A victory this evening would move the Reds onto nine points from their opening four matches in their group. Following Genk, they have Napoli at home in what could prove a decisive match for who finishes top, before their last match against Red Bull Salzburg in December.
