“It’s Disappointing” Thomas Muller Criticises FIFA Decision As He Praises Mo Salah

Bayern Munich and Germany legend Thomas Muller has questioned why Liverpool forward Mo Salah was left out of FIFA’s World XI last month.

The Egyptian international has been in scintillating form this season and, while he praised the winger’s performances, Muller was puzzled by the decision not to include him among the best in the world:

“Mohamed Salah is in great form at the moment and is appreciated by everyone. It’s disappointing that he was not chosen in the World XI, and this may be due to the Euros being played last summer.”

Four players from Premier League clubs were named in FIFA’s XI, including Chelsea pair Jorginho and N’Golo Kante, as well as Manchester City’s Ruben Dias and Kevin De Bruyne.

Paris Saint-Germain’s Gianluigi Donnarumma, Real Madrid’s David Alaba, Juventus’s Leonardo Bonucci, Manchester United’s Cristiano Ronaldo, Borussia Dortmund’s Erling Haaland, Bayern Munich’s Robert Lewandowski and PSG’s Lionel Messi made up the rest of the eleven.

As Muller points out, the European Championships last year likely played a role in terms of the lack of African players not being selected. Chelsea’s Edouard Mendy was also harshly left out.
