PSV Eindhoven winger Cody Gakpo has revealed he has held talks about a potential move to Liverpool or Manchester City at the end of the season.

The 22-year-old has confirmed that he will sign a contract extension, keeping him with the Eredivisie side until 2026, but the feeling is that he will be sold next summer, with the player suggesting discussions are already underway:

“It looks like I’m going to renew my contract. The clubs that want something are also known to me, I’ve had conversations about that with my agent. Very interesting clubs have been added, but we have to look at what the [next] step is. At the moment, my focus is not there and I had better things to do on Sunday.”

Gakpo has been in great form for PSV this campaign, having scored 10 goals and contributed 11 assists in 28 appearances.

The Netherlands international generally plays off the left flank, cutting in onto his stronger right foot, which does suggest he may be a potential option to replace Sadio Mane.

With the Senegalese forward closing in on the final year of his contract at Anfield, there is an increasing likelihood that he could be sold, and it seems Gakpo may well be lined up as his successor. We shall see how this transfer story develops.
