Journalist Claims Liverpool “Have Their Eyes” On Signing 46M Rated Swiss International

Liverpool remain interested in signing Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder Denis Zakaria, according to Bild journalist Christian Falk.

The Reds have been linked with a bid for the Swiss international in the past and Falk has claimed that Jurgen Klopp’s side are continuing to scout the 23-year-old and could make a move for the player next summer:

“I know that Liverpool have their eyes on Zakaria of Monchengladbach. This is a very talented player who will hit the market next year. A move to the Premier League is easy for him to imagine.”

Back in July, it was claimed that Gladbach had slapped a minimum price tag of €50m (£46m) on Zakaria so it would certainly be an expensive purchase were Liverpool to step up their interest in the midfielder.

With Georginio Wijnaldum no closer to signing a contract extension, the Dutchman could leave Anfield on a free transfer at the end of the season, leaving the Reds short of options in midfield.

While Thiago Alcantara could also be brought in from Bayern Munich, he would not be a direct replacement for Wijnaldum and Zakaria may well be the player Liverpool’s scouting team have been eyeing as a potential alternative.
