“Keep An Eye On This…” Romano Issues Exciting Liverpool Transfer Update

Liverpool are “really, really interested” in signing Wolves midfielder Matheus Nunes, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The Italian journalist claims that the Reds made contact with the player before he made the switch to Molineux last summer but they are likely to revive their pursuit at the end of the season:

“Matheus Nunes can be a serious option for Liverpool. I’m told a potential move to Liverpool was already discussed with the player when he accepted last summer to join Wolverhampton from Sporting [Lisbon]. The player was tempted by the Premier League in general, but already discussed this possibility with Liverpool. So, this is what happened with Matheus Nunes and Liverpool. Keep an eye on this possibility for Matheus Nunes to join the club in the summer. Liverpool are really, really interested.”

Nunes was heavily linked with Liverpool, Chelsea and West Ham before Wolves secured his signature for £42m back in August but it appears his stay with the Midlands club could be brief.

There is no prospect that the 24-year-old will move clubs in January, as FIFA rules stipulate a player can’t play for three teams in a single season. As well as Wolves, he has also made two appearances for Sporting.

A deal could be agreed before the summer but, if a transfer does go ahead, the earliest date that Nunes will become a Reds player will be July 1st.
