Klopp Could ‘Dig Deep Into His Pocket’ With Liverpool ‘Ready To Invest’ In 54M Rated Van Dijk Replacement

Liverpool may target Bayern Munich defender David Alaba in the January transfer window, according to Nau. The Swiss news outlet claims that the Reds could look to take advantage of the Austrian’s contract situation.

Bayern have withdrawn from negotiations to extend the 28-year-old’s current deal, which expires next summer. It means the Bundesliga champions may well consider selling the player in the New Year to prevent him from leaving on a free transfer.

Nau claim that Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp could “dig deep into his pocket” to sign Alaba as a replacement for Virgil van Dijk who is expected to miss the rest of the season with a knee injury.

Alaba has played mostly as a centre-back over the past couple of seasons and he would certainly add more experience to the Reds’ depleted backline. There are, though, other potential suitors with Juventus, Manchester City, Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain all having been linked with the Austrian.

The player’s price tag is reportedly set at €60m (£54m), and while Nau report that the Reds are “ready to invest” in Alaba, it’s unlikely that they would pay so much for someone who could be signed for nothing at the end of the season.
